What information do I need? (Bldrs)
What information do we need from you?
Boundary plan
Please provide a plan clearly showing the ownership and boundaries of your site. Where we can, we will design a cable route that is within the boundary of your land, avoiding the need for third party agreement. This can reduce legal costs and lead times required to complete the work. This information may be available from:
- the Land Registry
- your planning application
- your property deeds
- hand drawings on an existing plan
Meter position
Please make sure that your proposed new meter positions are clearly marked on your site layout plan. To find out more about permitted meter locations, see our Notes of Guidance.
Property details
The overall design will be determined by the number of properties that require connecting and the type of heating to be installed in the properties. You will need to provide full details of electricity and water heating. You will also need to let us know if any temporary or landlords’ supplies are required.
Group metering positions
For flats or maisonettes where a group metering position is required, you will need to provide an Internal Layout Plan with your application. See our Notes of Guidance.
Load
We need to know the maximum power you require and details of any disturbing loads. Your load requirements need to be stated in kVA (Kilo Volt Amps).
Disturbing and non-disturbing loads
Most enquiries relate to non-disturbing loads. However, if the application is for a site with motors, for example swimming pools, air conditioning plant, lifts, ground source heat pumps or electric welding equipment, the load may be disturbing and we will need more detailed information from you as these loads can cause flickers or disturbances on our network. We will not be able to proceed with the design without it.
Information is required about all motors and electric welders to be connected to the system, especially the largest motor and its method of starting, for example, ‘Star Delta’ and ‘direct on line’ (DOL) and its frequency of start. If you don't know this information, please refer to the manufacturer or the equipment installer. If available, please provide copies of the data sheets for any motor that will be installed.
Meter installation
Once you have a scheduled date for your connection to be made live, you can arrange an appointment with your electricity supplier to install the meters. Please note we can not make these arrangements for you. Prior to arranging your appointment, you will need to register with your chosen electricity supplier. To do this, you will need to quote a supply number (MPAN) for each electricity connection. We'll provide you with these after you accept our quotation.
We recommend that you register all supply numbers with your electricity supplier. Otherwise, your final electricity connection(s) may be delayed. Your electricity supplier will be responsible for installing the meter and isolator switch.
Plan
So that we can identify your property/development and give you an accurate quotation for the work, we'll need you to provide us with plans of the location including adjacent properties and streets and a site layout.
